School's out… Teachers, plan your autumn 2019 visit to PHM!
Teachers, book a session from PHM’s inspiring Learning Programme now for autumn 2019. PHM offers engaging learning sessions for early years through to Key Stage 4, with strong links to the National Curriculum and British Values. For primary we cover the themes of Manchester Then and Now, Living and Working Conditions of the 19th Century, and Suffragettes. Our sessions for secondary have links to topics such as Revolution and Reform, Migration, Power and the People, and Post War Britain. Sessions include drama performances and artist-led workshops, to creative writing, walking tours, guided tours and archive activities.

Summer holidays: Make Your Mark with print
Every Wednesday in the Manchester school holidays experiment with a different printing technique. These drop in activities will allow the whole family a chance to think about how we can spread important messages in creative ways. From collagraphy, screen-printing and sun printing to more unusual approaches such as stamping coins and using recycled household materials, Make Your Mark workshops offer an inclusive space for all ages and abilities. All activities can be tailored to support special educational needs and disability (SEND) requirements.

Abraham Moss Community School environmental project
Using photography and zine making to explore protest, everyday activism and collective action, 15 students from Abraham Moss Community School in Crumpsall, north Manchester looked at the damage of pollution and climate change in Manchester. The collection of digital photographs and statements the students created challenges us to think about our own impact on the environment, and the small changes we could make such as recycling. See examples of the students’ work from this project on display in the Protest Lab in our exhibition Disrupt? Peterloo and Protest until mid July 2019.

How have you protested?
Attending organised marches isn’t the only way to protest. From refusing to use plastic bags to sharing something online, many of us protest on a daily basis, finding small but effective ways to stand up for what we believe in. As part of the Protest Lab in our exhibition Disrupt? Peterloo and Protest we are asking people to add their own objects that tell a story about protest to the displays. These could range from traditional items such as placards and badges from a protest march, or everyday objects that tell a personal story of protest. If you have an object you think is relevant, join us on our drop off days, or get in touch at disrupt@phm.org.uk.
