At the heart of every campaign for change is a person with an important story to tell. In the storytelling zone you can discover yours.
This colourful experience celebrates the power of storytelling. Through stories we connect with other, imagine alternative futures, and seek to inspire with hope and possibility.
The storytelling zone has been designed for young visitors who love discovering stories and exploring the power of their imaginations, as well as a place for families to relax, play together and have fun during their visit to PHM.
First, spin the dice on our story generator to spark your imagination.
Next, peer into the emotions mirror. Experiment with different ways to use your face, body or voice to express big feelings. Do different emotions change your story?
When you’re ready, bring your creation to life using the storytelling zone’s puppets and props – a doll’s treehouse, Duplo, finger puppets and more.
Then settle down at one of our storytelling stations to share your adventure with your friends and family.
Everyone’s story matters as you’ll see from the books around you. The bookshelves in the storytelling zone are filled with stories that celebrate the themes of the museum, featuring diverse voices and showing how stories can inspire change.
All the colourful artworks in the space are by artist and illustrator Sam Selley.
The storytelling zone launches as part of a programme of activities taking place across the region for the Festival of Libraries 2026, organised by Manchester City of Literature.
