Donations and loans to PHM's collection

PHM's collection features an eclectic and colourful mix of historic and contemporary material telling the story of democracy in Britain.

As we work on a number of exciting projects to improve our collections management, make our collection more accessible, and review our policies, the museum and archive are temporarily pausing our acquisitions (object donations) and loans programmes, and some elements of our enquiry programme, until Spring 2024.

In this time we will be developing our sustainable collecting policy ensuring future acquisitions are strategic, inclusive and representative of the communities we serve and the themes and stories that will help us to achieve our vision – of a fairer society where people’s voices and actions make a difference.  We believe this is important to ensure that we are able to preserve our collection for future generations.

Any acquisitions and loans already in progress will be processed, but we are not able to accept any new offers or requests until Spring 2024.   We will update this page when we are once again accepting offers and loan requests.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to respond to any offers or loan requests received before this time.

General collection or archive enquiries will be accepted, and research visits to the Labour History Archive & Study Centre can still be booked be emailing, however we are unable to offer research visits to our off-site stores or provide image services during this pause.

To explore PHM’s collection check out the online collections database.  We are working hard to add to this and improve it over the coming years.
