Description
The National Union of General Workers was a left-wing union, closely associated with the emerging labour movement of the late 19th century.

The banner shows four union members clasping hands. The image of clasped hands is a common one and is used to indicate unity. The dramatic phrase at the bottom of the picture promises great benefits for those who join the union.

Conserved in 1992 in the museum's Textile Conservation Studio.

Materials: Hand painted oil-based image on a single layer of silk fabric.
