Description
The union had been formed in 1828. After an unsuccessful strike in 1848 quarrels within the union caused it to split into London and Manchester based bodies. Not until 1921 were the two halves reunited in the Amalgamted Union of Building Trade Workers.

The banner was conserved in the museum's Textile Conservation Studio in 1997.

Materials: single sided banner with ground of purple cotton sateen, bordered with white cotton sateen. Machine sewn applied lettering.
