Description
The union was formed on May Day 1898, one of several general workers' unions which sought to organize semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Amongst its members were a high proportion of women workers.

The design takes its romantic symbolism from Walter Crane designs of the 1880s.

The banner was made by George Tutill, 83 City Road, London.

Materials: Single layer silk fabric banner. Ground of crimson and purple jacquard woven silk. Replacement borders of yellow polyester rep. Oil painted images on each side.
