Description
When the Amalgamated Society of Engingeers refused to allow electricians membership to their union in 1889, the electricians founded the Electrical Trades Union. Control of the union was won by members of the Communist Party in the 1940s. In 1961 a court case saw 5 leading members of the Communist Party be found guilty for ballot rigging. The union then fell under right wing control. The union amalgamated with the Plumbing Trade Union to form the Electrical Electronic Telecommunications and Plumbing Union in 1968.
