Description
The Amalgamated Society of Brassworkers had been part of the National Amalgamated Brass Workers Society in 1874, but broke away in 1886 to form a separate society based in London. At this time it was known as the London Society of Amalgamated Brass Workers and Gas Fitters. Later it was known as the London Amalgamated Brass Workers Society. It had a membership of 408 in 1892, falling to 240 in 1901 and rising again to 280 in 1910. In the years 1948 and 1952 membership was 640. In 1961 it possessed 339 members, but the union ceased to exist in 1962.
