Loyal United Free Mechanics apron, about 1830
This piece of regalia was used in secret meetings of a skilled mechanics' society. Printed on linen, it contains Biblical images such as Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, and Jacob's Ladder. The significance of other icons, such as the all-seeing eye or the sun and moon, is hazy to us today.
