Description
Black, white and red poster in a Russian Constructivist aesthetic. 'FUEL TO FIGHT FOUNDATION OF THE NATION'.
Red diagonal bands run from the top left and bottom letf to the middle of the right hand side. Under the top band is a stylised image of a man holding the banner up. Next to him is an image of machinery from a pit. At the top of the poster, text in white and black reads 'FUEL FOUNATION OF THE NATION'. Beneath the image of the machinery in a black band reads 'SUPPORT THE MINERS'. In the bottom left hand corner is the text 'OUR WORK WITH HAMMERS' with two hammers beside it. In the bottom right hand corner is a black triangle with the text 'WINTER 84' printed in white.
The poster, designed by Brett Turnbull, was to advertise the industrial music group Test Dept's tour to support striking miners in 1984. The group initially worked with a group of striking miners to form a choir from different groups in Crynant, Glyneath and Onyllwyn. After their initial concert in Deptford, the group toured, working with other miners' choirs and colliery bands.
