Description
A faded poster from 1912 depicting 4 men on a ladder in a room filling with water. The man on the top rung has a top hat on and is labelled "£10,000 a year man", the next man down has a bowler hat and is labelled "£1000 a year man", the next man has a straw hat and is labelled "£250 a year man" with his feet in the water, whilst the last man on the ladder is almost completely submerged; he wears a flat cap and an arrow pointing to him labels him as "The unemployed man". Text next to this cartoon reads "The man at the top- 'Equality of sacrifice- that's the big idea, friends! Let's all step down one rung!" The cartoon is by J.F. Horrabin and is taken from 'Plebs', a branch of the N.C.L.C (National Council of Labour Colleges) which focused around a Marxist philosophy and critical way of thinking. Bold text on the poster reads "SACRIFICE? VOTE LABOUR"
