Description
The Amalgamated Society Of Railway Servants was established in 1872, and this double sided watch fob may date from that year.

Dismissal for union activity, extremely long hours, and high injury and death rates on the railways, were common in the late 19th century. The establishment in 1913 of the National Union Of Railwaymen, which incorporated the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, was a major step towards remedying these things.

ASRS members played a large part in establishing a political party to secure working people's interests, with the founding of the Labour Representation Committee in 1900. In 1906 the LRC adopted the name, Labour Party.
