Description
Multicolour metal badge with gold inscription, "Cable St. Wapping. 50 Years 1936-1986 - Against Fascism".

The badge was created to celebrate 50 years of resistance to fascism. In 1936, local residents in East London areas, including Jewish, socialist, anarchist, and communist groups, successfully blocked a march by the British Union of Fascists (led by Oswald Mosley) through the East End of London in what became known as the Battle of Cable Street. In 1986, print workers' unions had a lengthy dispute against International Media Group owner Rupert Murdoch when he moved production to Wapping.
