Description
Hackney Printworkers' Group, Free Mike Hicks banner, 1986

The Printworkers' Support Group met weekly during the year-long Wapping dispute and organised meetings, collections and leafleting in Hackney in support of the 5,500 sacked Printworkers'. This banner was carried on the regular Saturday night demonstrations at Rupert Murdoch's News International plant in Wapping, London.

The support group added the words Free MIKE HICKS to the banner on 5 December 1986 following the news of the jailing of Mike Hicks, one of the leaders of the demonstration at Wapping.

The banner was made by members of the Hackney Printworkers' Support Group.

Materials: Mixed fabric construction including cottons and rayons with machine sewn applied design. (Label text 2011-12)
