Description
This t-shirt was produced in the 1980s in response to the Thatcher Government's leaflet 'Protect and Survive' detailing how to make your house as safe as possible under a nuclear attack. The t-shirt reads:
"HOME OFFICCE PROTECT AND SURVIVE. These instructions tell you how to make your home as safe as possible under nuclear attack. 1. plan a fall out and inner refuge. Block doors and windows with bricks, concrete, timber, earth, sand, books or furniture. 2. Construct your inner refuge, perhaps from doors or tables. Surround with heavy furniture, books, earth, etc. 3. Store 14 days of water and food, a radio plus spare batteries, disinfectant, first aid kit, clock (mechanical) and calendar, magazines, toys, etc. 4. On seeing the blinding flash of nuclear explosion, bend down, place your head between your knees and kiss your arse goodbye."
