Description
Poster, black print on yellow paperstock, advertising the sale of the pamphlet "The Living Wage and the Law of Supply and Demand" by 'Nunquam' (a pseudonym for Robert Blatchford). Above the title is printed "Now Ready Price 1D" meaning 1 pence; underneath is written "The profit from the sale of this pamphlet will be given to the Workers for Strike Funds and other useful purposes". The poster was printed by the "Clarion" Office, 81 Corporation Street, Manchester.
Robert Blatchford was the editor of the Clarion, a socialist magazine he helped to set up. He saw socialism as a practical solution to poverty he witnessed when working in Manchester. Published in 1893, the profits of the pamphlet went to support workers strike fund, aiming to support workers who were fighting for better wages following the announcement of a 25% cut in wages by mine owners.
