Description
Double sided red polyester banner, with painted decoration in acrylic. The faceside shows a central image of of three Sainsbury's workers with a store behind them. The figures demonstrate a conscious gender and race diversity. '6/500 branch' is painted at the bottom in blue and white, and the gold title scroll above reads 'T&G WU Sainsburys North West'. The reverse has a simple design with gold scrolling across the top reading 'T&GWU Sainsburys North West' and 'Peace, Progress and Prosperity' written at the bottom in blue and white.
This banner was made in the 1980s and was carried in a 2005 protest about a pay discpute with Sainsbury's supermarket chain. Union members marched to the Sainsbury's Head Office in London to protest against unfair contracts in the first street demonstration against a supermarket - the demonstrators won.
