Description
Conservative and Unionist rosette, made from purple/ blue ribbon, with a pin badge reading 'General Election 1922'. The centre of the rosette is a gold and blue pin which shows a shamrock, thistle, rose and daffodil.


The floral symbols in the centre of the badge represent: Ireland (shamrock), Scotland (thistle), England (rose) and Wales (daffodil). Ireland had been considered a part of Britain until conculsion of the Irish War of Independence the previous year, at which point Northern Ireland was created and remained in the union. The word 'Unionist' in 'Conservative and Unionist Party' which is the full name of the Conservative or Tory party refers to a commitment to preserving the union between Britain and Northern Ireland.
