Description
Overstamped Two Pence coin, c. 2018

This two pence coin has been overstamped with the words "People's Vote" as an act of protest and to raise awareness of the call for a public vote on the final terms of the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union.

Overstamping coins as a form of protest has a long history in Britain, and was used by those fighting for Universal Suffrage in the early 20th Century. The People's Vote movement has called for a second referendum on the way in which the UK should leave the EU so that the general public can decide on whether the UK should leave with a deal, no deal, or stay in the EU.

Attached to the coin is a card bearing an explanation from the artist about their work, and the reasons for the protest.
