Description
A Disabled Lesbian Group postcard. A white woman wearing a blue top has her arm around the shoulder of a black woman, and is is groping her breast. The caption reads 'Susan always knew her years of braille reading would eventually bring her greater rewards.'

These postcards were created by Julia Keenan as part of Manchester's Lesbian Community Project. The postcards use humour to tackle the issue of representation and acceptance of disabled members of the LGBTQ+ community, within the community itself. 1 in 3 LGBTQIA+ adults in the UK also has a disability, and LGBTQIA+ disabled people face the double discrimination of ableism within LGBTQIA+ spaces, and homophobia and transphobia within disabled services and spaces.

Deaf and disabled people, particularly those with learning disabilities, are often not supported by their families, teachers or paid carers to learn about relationships, sex or sexuality due to societal prejudice against the idea of disabled people being sexually active.
