Description
White poster with black text reading: 'Don't let the Adenauer and Dulles drag Britain into war' and 'No arms for Germany' in block capitals, around 1955. This poster was made during the Cold War, issued by the Communist Party and printed by Publicity Printing in order to protest the rearmament of West Germany following their entry into NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) in 1955. The Communist Party were against German military forces being armed as they thought it carried danger of another war with the Soviet Union over the occupation of East Germany, which could escalate to the use of nuclear weapons. This poster references Konrad Adenauer, the chancellor of Germany during the 1950's and John Foster Dulles, the US secretary of state during the same period. Both men took aggressive stances against communism during the Cold War and the Communist Party of Great Britain saw their attempt to
rearm Germany as a way to aid the Western Bloc in the fight against East Germany and escalate the conflict to nuclear war. Condition: good, small tears at bottom left side
