The campaign refers to the Eighth Amendment which outlawed abortion in Ireland. Though campaigning since 1983, the issue grew in awareness in 2012 following the death of Savita Halappanavar from sepsis, after her request for an abortion was refused on legal grounds. This brought the case for change into mainstream politics. In 2018, a referendum was held and the Irish people voted to remove the Eighth Amendment to legalise abortion. The "Yes" vote was to legalise abortion.
