Description
Revive Women's Group Banner, 'Treat Us with Respect and Dignity'
This is one of a collection of textile banners made with Revive Women's Group and artist Ibukun Baldwin during Refugee week in 2019; Revive is a charity based in Salford, Greater Manchester, which provides free support to refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK.
The banner aims to communicate issues the women face; the asylum process can be especially challending for women, many of whom have experienced gender specific forms of persecution in thier home countries or during their journey to the UK. This example reads "Treat Us with Respect and Dignity We Are Revive Women", appliqued onto a white support, with additional flours and bird details.
Created by Revive Women's Group working with artist Ibukun Baldwin. Commissioned by ArtReach in partnership with Revive UK as part of Journeys Festival International, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. On loan from ArtReach.
