Description
Poster arguing agaisnt Free Trade, around 1910

This poster shows John Bull standing with three men. In the background is a large container reading "England The World's Dumping Bin" into which goods such as flour, cotton, grain and even a locomotive engine are falling from shutes reading "French Goods", "Swedish Goods", "American Goods" and "German Goods". These are then being deposited onto the floor of the dockyard, with a sign above reading "Foreign nations are requested to dump all their surplus goods here - free of charge". One of the men is pointing to the goods, while another says "Look at this John, how can you expect us to make a living when you let things go on like this? Can't you alter it you old duffer?" to which John Bull replies "You're right my men, but I will try and alter it though, I'll just run over ot the United States and try to sell some of my stuff there"

The poster is arguing against Free Trade, which was the centre of a political crisis in 1910. It was believed that Free Trade took work away from British labourers, due to cheap international imports.
