Talk about Tariff Reform!

Date
1910

Description
Free Trade poster, "Talk About Tariff Reform!", published by the Free Trade Union, 1910

The poster appears to show an a man stranded on a desert island. He is sitting on a beach, with a hut behind him. He is wearing furs, with a ratchet in his waistband, and holding a rifle. All of his clothes and items, and the hut and stool, are labelled either "home made" or "brought from England". Beside him, the poster reads "Look at him! If imports are an injury he ought to be the most prosperous man who ever lived".

The suggestion of the poster is that Protectionism, or Tariff Reform, was not a simple solution to prosperity.
