Description
Red landscape banner with lettering in plastic material. Yellow lettering reads ‘LONDON DISTRICT YCL’ at the top with a Chilean flag to the left of centre. The Chilean flag is composed of two equal heigh horizontal blocks of white and red, with a blue square the same height as the white band in the top left featuring a single white star. White lettering reading ‘SOLIDARITY WITH CHILE’ runs across the bottom of the banner.

The Chilean military coup of 1973 led to international outcry. In the aftermath of the coup, individuals and organisations around the UK rallied to Chile’s aid. This banner was used at a demonstration in London in 1974 to mark the first anniversary. Demonstrations demanded human rights for the people of Chile, protesting against the torture of opponents of the country’s dictator General Augusto Pinochet.
