This badge is in opposition to the Gulf War. The Gulf War was a war waged by coalition forces from 35 nations led by the USA against Iraq - this was in response to Iraq's invasion and annexation of Kuwait. This arised from oil and production disputes. In 1990 Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait - Thatcher and George W. Bush deployed military in Saudi Arabia and urged others to join their coalition. The war to expel the Iraqi troops started in January 1991, and lasted five weeks. Many Kuwaiti civilians were killed by Iraqi troops. The American and and coalition forces used air strikes which also resulted in civilian deaths and mass displacement.
