Clare Short was a Labour MP, first elected to the Birmingham Ladywood ward in 1983. She served 27 years as an MP, becoming Labour's Secretary of State for International Development in 1997. In 2003 she resigned from her position in Tony Blair's government in protest of the Iraq War.
