Description
Communist party "Get Britain Out" poster, around 1973 This is a poster issued by the Communist Party to campaign against Britain's membership of the EEC (European Economic Community), which was later integrated into what became the EU (European Union). The Communist Party were against Britain being part of the EEC as the EEC provided no worker protection and refused to adopt full employment as one of its objectives. There was also a concern that British wages would suffer as a result of competition with lower paid workers overseas. The poster has a red background with a white cartoon dawing of a pile of money, labelled "Britain's contribution to the EEC budget". At the bottom of the pile there are two triangles labelled "Beef montain" and "butter mountain"- beef and butter were two products that the EEC had created a surplus of due to interventionism, and so lost economic value. "Vote communist" is printed in red at the bottom. The words "Get Britain Out" are printed in the centre of the page in black. This poster was printed by Farleigh Press and issued by the Communist Party of Great Britain.
