Description
White poster with black and red screen-printed text. Black text reads "Fight the wage freeze" whilst red text reads "Join the communist party". This poster was published by the Communist Party of Great Britain and screen printed by Gobart. Made between 1978-1979, this poster urges people to protest the freeze in wages brought on by James Callaghan government's attempt to reduce inflation. This period is referred to as the Winter of Discontent due to the outpour of union activity in response to the slashing of public funds and cuts to public services, exacerbated by the coldest Winter Britain had experienced for years.
