Description
White poster with black text reading: "The four powers must meet for peace" and "No arms for Germany" in block capitals, around 1955. This poster was made during the Cold War, issued by the Communist Party and printed by Publicity Printing in order to protest the rearmament of West Germany following their entry into NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) in 1955. The Communist Party were against German military forces being armed as they thought it carried danger of another war with the Soviet Union over the occupation of East Germany, which could escalate to the use of nuclear weapons. This poster references the four powers that were occupying Germany at the time- the UK, US, and France in West Germany and the Soviet Union in East Germany, who were in a conflict over the status of Berlin. Communists thought that German rearmament would aid the Western Bloc in the fight against East Germany and
escalate the conflict to nuclear war. Condition: good, slight tear in top left corner
