Description
A poster in support of the March for Jobs in 1983, a march in protest of Margaret Thatcher's government, which had seen unemployment soar. 15-20,000 people took part in the March for Jobs in 1983, supported by trade unions and the Labour Party. The march had two routes; one that started in Glasgow and one that started in Land's End, Cornwall. Upon arrival in London, rallies were held, during which Michael Foot, then-leader of the Labour Party, spoke to those gathered. The poster has a dark background upon which blue cursive text reads "United against mass unemployment" next to the text a cartoon shows people marching and carrying banners with various slogans and names "Marx with Sparx", "Trade unions", "Labour Party", "Communist Party." and three banners towards the bottom read, when put together "Support / The people's / March '83" Writing on
the back reads: 88 ecoropa posters (late 1970's - early 1990's) Condition: it looks as though a few centimetres have been cut off of the top of the poster, perhaps to make it fit better in a frame or similar.
