Description
A large red poster featuring a photograph of a Palestinian revolutionary doing the peace sign with one hand and carrying a rock in the other. White text reads "Second year of the Palestinian Uprising / INTIFADA / DEMONSTRATION / Saturday 9th December 1989 1PM. HYDE PARK, Speakers Corner, Tube: Marble Arch. Speakers: PLO, International & Others" This poster was published by the Joint Committee For Palestine in 1989 in order to promote a demonstration showing solidarity with the Palestinian uprising in 1989. The uprising (known as the First Palestinian Uprising or the First Intifada) began in 1987 and lasted until 1993. It was a sustained protest by Palestinians against the ongoing Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The throwing of stones featured heavily in these protests and thus became a symbol of the Intifada.
