Description
Large white poster, with black and red text. In capital letters it says "FIGHT THE WAGE FREEZE." Underneath it says "Join the Communist party." Publishing information is in smaller font at the bottom of the poster, saying "published by the Communist Party of Great Britain 16. King St W.C.1. Screen printed by Gobart ARC.4828." Probably made in the early 1970s, due to wage freezes and economic discontent. 1973 was a tumultuous year economically, hence the Communists asking for a price freeze; this is due to a hike in prices, mass unemployment and social and economic disparities. There was a banking crisis in 1973. Edward Heath was Prime Minister in 1973, who also introduced higher charges and prices within the welfare state, such as increasing the prices of school meals, glasses, and prescriptions. At the bottom it says it was published by the CPGB and lists the address.
