Description
This poster was published in 1908 by the Brighton and Hove branch of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies.

People who supported the extension of the vote to include women were known as 'suffragists'. In the nineteenth century women were discriminated against in all areas of their lives, from employment, education, marriage to the right to own property. Suffragists felt that until women had the vote they could not improve their situation.

The poster shows one woman holding a pair of scales, representing justice, and the Houses of Parliament in the background.

The campaign was finally successful in gaining votes for women over 21 in 1928.
