"A general election now poster" [NMLH.1994.168.581]
Description
A white poster featuring a caricature of Harold Macmillan, UK Prime Minister from 1957-1963, with an orange cross across his face. Black text underneath reads "A General Election" and in large orange letters "NOW!". This poster was produced by the Communist Party in 1962 following a growing discontent with the Conservative Party and Macmillan's government due to the economic policies unveiled in the 1960 budget. Macmillan reshuffled his cabinet in an attempt to appease the population but was voted out in 1963. Black text at the bottom of the poster reads "A Communist Party poster" and handwriting on the reverse side reads "July 1962, A General Election Now D/C posters"
