This poster was created by the Young Conservatives for the 1987 General Election. While in opposition, Labour was frequently accused by the Conservatives of being infiltrated by groups from what was often called the 'Loony Left' including the peace and anti-nuclear weapons movements, the far left, including the group Militant, and LGBTQIA+ people. In the poster the Young Conservative provide their vision of life under minority-friendly Labour.
The incumbent Conservative Party won the election, making Margaret Thatcher the first prime minister to win three successive general elections since 1820. The following year, the Conservative government introduced the anti-LGBTQIA+ law Section 28, which prohibited discussion of homosexuality in local government funded institutions.
