Description
A small poster featuring a print of a woman dressed in black with three children placing a coin into a donation box. The scene depicted is the tale of the Widow's Mite, a Biblical parable in which a poor widow donates all she has and by doing so is said to have donated more than any rich person, despite the low monetary value of her donation. The painting is captioned "Druck Verlag u Eigenthum.v.Ed.Gust May in Frankfurt" (Printed and published by Ed Gust May in Frankfurt), referring to the printer Eduard Gustav May who operated from 1845-1914. It is titled 'The Widow's Mite' and has the German and French translations on either side. Written inscription on the back reads: "Chapman / 24 20 mint / 1803 upstairs"
