Description
This poster shows a four panel comic by wartime cartoonist Kenneth Bird (Fougasse), a cartoon he created as part of Gerald Fleming's "Guided composition for student of English" book. The first panel shows two men on an airplane, and an attendant carrying a tray of food. The second panel shows the attendant giving the food to the first man. The third panel shows the first man beginning to eat as the man in front of him presses a button on his chair. The fourth panel shows the first man exclaiming in surprise as the other man's chair reclines backwards into his food. The cartoon is signed 'Fougasse' and was published by Hodder and Stoughton and printed by Chigwell Press. Fougasse is also known for his cartoon of a butler on a plane, which continues to be used as the first class logo for British Airways menus. His other famous work includes the World War II propaganda posters 'Careless Talk Costs Lives' which he produced for the Ministry of Information during the war.
