Description
This is a large white poster with black text and an image of a divorce license being granted surrounded by a purple border. / Al referendum rispondi no" or (English translation) "The Church has always reserved the right to annul and dissolve failed marriages / Why shouldn't the state? / The ecclesiastical annulment of marriage ignores the existence of children / Ecclesiastical annulment of marriage does not protect the weaker spouse / Do not cancel the divorce from the laws of the state / Answer NO on the referendum." This poster refers to the Italian divorce referendum that happened in 1974, where voters were asked whether they wanted
to repeal a government law passed three years earlier allowing divorce for the first time in modern Italian history. This poster was distributed by the Italian Communist Party and urges people to vote 'no' and keep the right to divorce. The poster is missing the bottom right corner due to tearing and has a slight rip down the centre.
