Description
White poster with red border. Cartoon caricature of a man with a moustache holding a bowl full of soldiers, the bowl is covered in newspaper clippings, with the main title of the newspaper at the top "Il Cesto del Carlino." This is a conservative newspaper in Italy. There is black text underneath in Italian and translates to " Il Resto del Carlino, the Giornale d'Italia, the Nation: the newspapers of the oilman Monti, billions of lire and words to defend and spread anti-communism and fascism. Chain reaction." This lists three newspapers and states that they have relation to the oil industry, and how they spend billions to spread fascism and anti-communism. This is commenting on the power of the media. This poster was made in 1970, in which Italy adopted a strategy of tension, this is when violent struggle is encouraged rather than suppressed. The strategy of tension is most closely identified with the Years of Lead in Italy from 1968 to 1982, wherein both far-left Marxist and
far-right neo-fascist extra-parliamentary groups, and state intelligence agencies performed bombings, kidnappings, arsons, and murders.
