Description
Small a5 leaflet. The front of the leaflet reads "No Nuclear Bases! No F1-11's!" "USAF Upper Heyford is NATO's second most strategic base in Europe, it is operated by 7000 U.S Air Force personnel. USAF Upper Heyford contains 71 long-range aircraft - general dynamics F1-11's. Each F1-F11 carries 6 nuclear warheads - each has the destructive capacity of 14 Hiroshimas. USAF upper Heyford has 10 f1-11's on permanent standby, equipped with nuclear warheads and ready to take off within and few minutes. USAF Upper Heyford has been fully operational since 1950, it's weapons are always ready to kill. USAF Upper Heyford will soon be ready to expand to house a wing of 18 NEW EF1-11's, electronic radar-jamming aircraft which will allow the F1-11 bombers to fly undetected by radar, nearer to their targets. USAD UPPER HEYFORD, with this extension and new aircraft means a serious escalation in the nuclear arms race!" The top of the leaflet has an image of a rocket and an explosion. The other side of the leaflet gives more information about the Upper Heyford Peace Camp. This side of the leaflet says "upper heyford peace camp - the peace camp at Upper Heyford was set up on Easter Sunday,1982, as a continuous living protest to the nuclear weapons store there. There are now ten women and men living here. We don't want praise for our personal commitment. We hope that by being here, we encourage others to be passionate, and to become active. Part of our task hereis to educate the public about the base. We do this by continually putting forward our arguments in the local and national press, radio, TV and simply by talking to people. This isn't always easy when so many locals work on the base, but we are winning our arguments and gaining respect. We have been vigorously involved in a campaign alongside local groups, to stop the base extension. We haven't won the campaign as yet but we have shown the strength of feeling over the issue, Over a thousand people demonstrated these feelings in a walk and festival on the land itself last September and over half the local villagers are behind us on this. The land is now being occupied; a personal statement of our resolve to resist the war machine. What can you do to help? On New Years Eve joined us from all over the country and stopped this nuclear base from working. As I write , a longer blockade is being planned for early June. JOIN US IN OUR PROTEST! Tell people about us, visit us, for an hour, a day, week-the choice is yours! We always need stationary, stamps, paraffin, tarpaulins, firewood and money! Invite us to talk to your local group or your friends etc. This way we can meet more people and spread the word of peace! Our address is: - Upper Heyford Peace Camp, Portway, Camp Road, Upper Heyford OXon, OX5 3LP. Telephone contacts, Steeple Aston, 40321 or 40461."
