Description
An election poster featuring an elderly man and woman, both dressed in black and looking angry. The man holds a letter reading 'Tory Pensions Scheme'. The poster says: 'Betrayed Again! 45,000 Old couples given only 10/- [shillings] a week between them. 50,000 Widows denied pensions altogether. Thousands of old folks deprived of 18/- [shillings] Unemployment Pay and given only 10/- [shillings] pension instead. Vote Labour and Secure Justice.'

After its introduction in 1910, the old age pension quickly became an important election topic. This poster, produced by the Labour Party for the 1929 general election, criticises the size of pensions under the Tory government. The 1929 election was the first time all women over 21 had the right to vote, and the poster specifically mentions women's issues with accessing pensions.

The Labour Party won the 1929 election, and Ramsay MacDonald became Prime Minister.
