Description
A black and white drawing of a mother and son smiling. The red text on the yellow background says 'Healthy. Thanks to Labour.'

The Labour Party's 1950 election campaign materials focused on the achievements the party had made since forming government in 1945. Many of the posters focus on welfare state policies and their positive impact on society. These policies including the creation of the National Health Service (NHS), which was founded in 1948. This poster focuses on the impact the NHS had on children's wellbeing.

The NHS was founded in 1948, making healthcare free to access at the point of use, meaning everyone could see a doctor without needing to pay as the healthcare system is funded through taxes. Before the existence of the NHS, people could only see a doctor if they could afford to pay for the appointment, and the medication the doctor prescribed. This meant that many working class and poor people died or became disabled due to being unable to afford healthcare.
