Description
A yellow poster containing a black and white picture of grocery shopping, and a person's hand holding a ration book. 'Labour sees that you get these. A fair share at a fair price.'

This 1950 election poster for the Labour Party addresses concerns about the cost of food and the continuation of rationing.
During World War II, all food was rationed, meaning people could only buy specific amounts. This system continued in the years after the War ended for select foods including meat. By the 1950 election, there were calls to end rationing entirely, which prompted concerns about how prices might rise and make food unaffordable. The poster promises that under a Labour government, this not happen. Labour won the 1950 election.

One reason for continued rationing, post war, was that the government could not afford to import the same amount of food as they had before rationing began. Continuing rationing hid this issue. Rationing ended gradually and the final category, fresh meat, was removed from rationing in 1954, nine years after the War ended.
