Description
This poster is the 8th in a collection of posters about Pietro Nenni, an Italian socialist politician who was also the national secretary of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) and a lifetime Senator since 1970. This poster is titled "dialogue with Catholics begins" and features photographs of Nenni in conversation with other representatives. Text reads: "After the defeat of April 18, the 27th Congress of the PSI was held in Genoa at the end of June 1948. A few weeks later, the People's Democratic Front dissolves. Less than a year later the 28th Congress takes place in Florence: Nenni is re-elected Secretary and Director of Avanti! In December 1951 he was awarded the Stalin Peace Prize for his work in favor of détente within the Partisan Peace Movement. The prize consists of a sum of 15 million that a few years later, after reporting Stalin's crimes, he will donate to the Red Cross. At the thirtieth congress of the PSI in Milan, in January 1953, he placed the socialist alternative on the agenda. The battle in Parliament and in the country against the scam law sees him among the protagonists. This time, in the elections in June, it is victory. Nenni takes the opportunity to invite the DC to the opening on the left, since in the internal situation and internationally, positive elements can be seen to resume the collaboration interrupted in 1947. In the subsequent congress, in March 1955 in Turin, he insists on dialogue with the DC and places a series of concrete requests. In September in the same year he made a trip to the Soviet Union and China. On 30 September in Beijing he meets Ciu En-lai; on October 3 Mao Tze Tung; on October 15 in Yalta Nikita Khrushchev." and the image caption reads: "Above a meeting of the Socialist Directorate in June 1955 below Nenni's speech at the Turin congress in March 1955" (all text translated from Italian
