Title
Women making links against Apartheid

Date
around 1986

Description
A postcard reproducing an image of a banner celebrating the role of women in the Anti-Apartheid Movement, London, around 1986. The banner features artwork of Black women with their hands and fists raised, wearing symbols on the back of their clothes, such as the venus symbol and the peace symbol. The banner was made to commemorate Liz Hollis, a young Anti-Apartheid Movement staff member who died tragically in 1986. Her name is written along the bottom along with the words "Hamba Kahle", meaning "Go in Peace" and is often used at someone's passing.

The back of the postcard reads: "WOMEN MAKING LINKS AGAINST APARTHEID: women in Britain in solidarity with the women of the African National Congress and SWAPO of Namibia in their fight to end Apartheid. Banner painted by Jane Rev for the Anti-Apartheid Movement, 13 Mandela Street, London NW1, in memory of Liz Hollis and her contribution to the struggle." in pink text
