A small white poster featuring a border of red roses and leaves. Red text at the top reads "The Social Charter" whilst black text in the main body reads: "We, the Socialisat members of the European Parliament, demand a Social Charter to guarntee fundamental social rights for the citizens of Europe. These rights must include: Fair wages and hours of work; The right to work and to paid holidays, sick pay and redundancy pay; the fight to information, consultation, and particiption for company workers, particularly in multinational firms; The highest standard of health and safety protection; Full childcare provision, maternity and paternity leave; Vocational training for young people and retraining for older workers; Equal treatment and equal opportunities for women and men; The right of elderly people, people with disabilities and unemployed people to a guaranteed minimum income to protect them against poverty. The European Social Charter must be the cornerstone of all plans to remove
barriers between European Community member countries by 1992. The Community we intend to build must be a Community of all women and men in Europe." This poster was produced by the Socialist Group of the European Parliament in 1992, laying out their agreed upon charter. The poster is signed by Brian Simpson, the Member of the European Parliament for Cheshire East between 1989 and 1994.
