GLC puts JOBS on the map

Description
A large poster featuring a multicolour cartoon map of Greater London. Instead of the usual landmarks, places were the GLC (Greater London Council) had created jobs in the district are displayed prominently next to geographical features. The Greater London Council was the top-tier local government administrative body for Greater London from 1965 to 1986.This map highlights successful endeavours such as the Lewisham Women's Employment Project, the Greenwich Employment Resource Centre, and the Hackney Trade Union Support Group. This poster was made in 1985, in an attempt to highlight the necessity of the GLC in a time when then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative government were trying to argue that it was inefficient and a waste of government money. Despite protests, Thatcher disbanded the GLC in 1986.
