Description
Poster, "Los Parra de Chile" advertising a concert by Angel Parra and Isabel Parra to raise funds and awareness for the Chile Solidarity Campaign.
The poster features the title above an image of a man holding aloft a Chilean flag, which was commonly used by the Chile Solidarity Campaign. Beneath the image reads "For the right to live in our country" along with the names Angel Parra and Isabel Parra, and information on the concert, including the date, location and ticket prices.
Angel and Isabel Parra were both musicians from a famous Chilean musical family. Following the military coup, Isabel Parra lived in exile in Argentina and France. She was a key member of the Nueva Cancion movement (meaning 'new song') in the 1960s, which was a left-wing movement of folk-song in Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal. Because of this invovlement, she would have been at risk of imprisonment, torture and death under the Pinochet regime. Angel Parra was also involved in the Nueva Cancion movement, and so fled Chile during the coup.
